I've been using qmail for a while now, I've got something like a bagillion patches on it to get it to do everything I need. Now, I loaded postfix on my test box to mess around with. What is everyone's opinion on postfix? I've no experience with it and was just wondering what the general concensus is on it.

I don't know much about postfix, but I do love me some qmail....on Gentoo that is. )

Fortunately I haven't had to patch anything to get what I need, Gentoo does that for me quite nicely ).

My poison is Courier.

apt-get install courier-base

It makes my heart go pitter-patter and my loins quiver.

/me sticks with postfix

LOL

Okay, I was playing with courier and it seems to work great, also integrates with VHCS better as that is what it is developed with. I've not had the chance to simulate a heavy load like my server currently gets, but I'm gonna get around to that this weekend... maybe if I have a moment of not partying. -D

I always replace exim with postfix on my machines (Debian installs exim as the default mailer).

Postfix seems easier for me to configure/maintain than does exim. YMMV.

I like courier and use it just about everywere.

The main bit behind courier performance is the machine and the extras you plan on running. One customer has a dual PIII 800Mhz system with about 1GB memory. Has virus scanning and spamassain running integrated into courier. With webmail, pop3, imap and smtp for the whole organization (about 75-100 people) without too many problems.
