wolfie

TheDanMan

I think he's chaotic neutral, actually.

I don't quite know what you mean by that. But yes, I can be kinda chaotic and I typically remain neutral and randomly pipe in.

wolfie

AD&D characters have certain characteristics and one of those characteristics is Alignment and one of those Alignments is Chaotic Neutral.

Clear as mud, thanks, I try.

There are a large number of Alignments some include:

Chaotic Good
Chaotic Evil

well that is all I can remember there are a lot more, but my memory fails me at this time.

Despite

stolen from http://www.fact-index.com/a/al/alignment.html :

In Dungeons & Dragons and similar role-playing games, alignment refers to the moral perspective of the player characters and non-player characters in the game.

The canonical system derived from Dungeons & Dragons creates a two-dimensional grid, one of which measures a continuum between good and evil, and the other between law and chaos. Those characters that fall on one of the extremes are "good" or "evil", "lawful" or "chaotic"; in addition, there is a middle ground of "neutrality" on both axes, describing characters that are indifferent or conflicted aboutgood or evil, law or chaos. Other gaming systems may use variations on these rules, ignore either the law and chaos axis or the good and evil axis, or devise a different system entirely.

now, seriously, what's on the agenda for the next meeting? I'm trying to decide whether or not I'll show.

Well, I have not heard yet and until robert becomes more open to community participation we are at his mercy. We are trying to become more community controlled, but it takes more voices to make that happen, so tell robert to link to these forums and to let the community have participation in presentations and input in deciding topics. :)

Can we tell him we are all vampires and will suck his blood if he doesn't? Or will that get us teh banned???

wolfie

And we still know nothing! :(

Despite

I guess that's cool for people who live close, and don't have anything else on the schedule that they may be juggling. I don't fit into that group, though.

wolfie

Since the community currently has no input into the topics of discussion, we are at the mercy of Mr. Robert Green. Please pester him to change this so that we all have a say into the topics we would like to present/discuss/see discussed.

I feel your pain man.....I feel your pain!

so are the topics going to posted on the new site..???
I like the PhPBB style much easier to follow even though
this whole thread never really got to the point... :-)

Good job on the new site..

Beginner topic: Basic User management

What is "basic user management"?

<rant>
I am sooooooooooo ready for an non-MySQL related advanced topic. I have nothing against MySQL, databases, or any of that, but quite frankly I lost interest several months ago. I mean, part 6?! We've been doing this for half a year - time to move on! I know as much about MySQL as I feel that I need to know, and I don't think that this type of meeting is particularly conducive to learning such things anyway (yes, I realize this is a personal thing). With the amount of time we've spent talking about it in meeting, I could have read a couple of books on the subject or the entire online MySQL reference manual.

In general, I'm just tired of the same old thing. It's obvious from the conversations that I've had with various members that it's not just one or two people out of our group that are knowledgeable, have interesting ideas, leadership skills, and are willing to present. I know I'm not the only one that thinks that our group could really benefit from some diversity in topics and presenters. Again, I have nothing against Robert, Eric, Fedora, or MySQL, but my patience for hearing Robert and Eric talk about Fedora and MySQL is about expended (disclaimer: I'm not a patient person).

Realistically, is there anything that we as a group can do to change this? I don't think there has to be hurt feelings or nastiness involved - maybe Robert is just waiting for a clear demonstration of initiative from someone else (like Chad with the Installfest). Maybe having another lunch/dinner meeting of those interested in helping out (hopefully including Robert this time) would be a good start?

I realize that I'm preaching to the choir here, but that's infinitely preferable to preaching to the wall.

whoa. the new guy wonders what the heck he's come in on the middle of...

btw, not to take sides here, but if it's MySQL, I'm gonna pass.

Hey Despit, what topic would interest you most?

wolfie

07-10-2004 07:40:51

yeah, I love mysql, but realistically I don't use it that much and probably never will :)

Those were my thoughts exactly.. Part 6 ??

Actually, I have only been to the SIG meetings about 3 times...
and Redhat /Fedora is always the topic.. Personally, I use
SuSE 9.1 at home..
Had much bad JUJU about the Redhat arrogance.. mainly related
to my experiences at work and Redhat's attitiude about fixing something
that IMHO needs to be addressed...

Taken serveral Redhat courses and we use Redhat at work..
RHEL3..
Actually, going for my RHCE this fall .. already have LPIC-1.. (that was
a tough course.. )

Suggestion..

How about a poll either here or at a SIG to get some suggestions on what
to present..

I realize:

1, you can't please everyone..
2, The leaders are volunteers and have other responsibilites
3, there is a limited amount of time to present..
4, Post the topics a "wee bit sooner'" than a couple of days before
5, Get another "experienced " SIG member to present his/her
favorite topic..

my .02

I will be there tonight..

Thx
and again... Kudos on the new site..

Charles

chad - pr0n. wait, did you mean relating to linux? hmmm... make it netfilter/iptables or possibly IPSec then.

thekat - don't know if you know it or not, but RHCE is no longer the king of the hill RH certification. they've introduced a RHCA (A for architect) now. in a way it kinda sucks that they did that, 'cause it sorta devalues the RHCE. but heck, who am I kidding? in Oklahoma, a RHCE cert ain't worth squat anyway.* at any rate, you have to have a RHCE before you can get a RHCA anyway, so... I guess I don't have a point. good luck on your exam!

* if I'm wrong about that, and anyone knows of a person or place that will pay well for a RH certified lunix dork, PLEASE let me know.

wolfie

07-10-2004 09:47:09

Well, why don't you guys post your topic suggestions in the Topic Suggestions forum. Then chad, colleen, wolfjb, and I can try to put some pressure on robert to get others involved. (anyone else who wants to help put the pressure on robert is of course welcome :))

That way we can really start to get some other input into the sig. The only way to make changes is to pester the crap out of someone until they are too exhausted to fight anymore. :)

Yup.. I am aware of that.. but since my company pays for all my classes..
heck why not..
Once I pass RHCE, (already have the RHCT also..) then I will shoot for
RHCA..
Hell.. since Novell owns SuSE also.. it is a matter of time before I go for
that one. too.. :-)

Topics.. just saw the topics section.. good idea...
