I would not say that there is any reason not to use ext3. There are circumstances in which other filesystems will perform better, but there are also usually some gotchas that come with that, and a bit of a learning curve. Since ext3 is just ext2 with a journal slapped on it, it will be very familiar to you if that's what you're used to. I use it almost exclusively. As a general purpose filesystem it's definitely a safe choice.
If you want to experiment with other filesystems you could always make some extra partitions - 200GB is a good amount of space to play with. :D

Well, I used ext3 as well, but it is really freaking slow, I will try to look up the benchmarks and post them here, all of the other journalled filesystems kick its ass most of the time.

yeah, but it's nice to know that if you fubar something, and have to boot with a rescue floppy or CD, every one of them supports ext2. and you can mount an ext3 as ext2.

I think the gentoo livecd's have support for most every filesystem :)
