Can we dissable this please? Everytime someone posts as guest because they forgot to sign in it bothers the hell out of me. In the event someone wishes to post annonymously they can create a dummy account. :-)

there's a little voice in my head saying "if TDM suggested it, you KNOW it's gotta be a mistake". nevertheless... make it so.
it'll help cut down on all that "Russian bride" spam too.

I'm gonna have to disagree on this one, unless/until we actually do get spammed (will the spammers make it past the certificate warnings? lol).

If I don't post under my account, it's probably because I don't want to deal with the hassle of logging in, so creating a dummy account would be just as annoying as it would require the whole email thing again.

What would be ideal is if it would let you input your login/pw at the message creation point, so that you could post as your user without being "logged in". As it is now it won't let you input the name of any registered account unless you're logged into that account.

That is my take on the whole thing exactly, and it is real easy to hit the delete button on the post to clear out bad posts, or posts I don't like

good idea. submit a patch.

I don't see why you wouldn't want to be logged in. it definitely makes it easier to see new posts when you hit the forum from multiple machines.

To me writing PHP falls on the "fun things list" between stabbing myself in the eye with a pencil and performing elective surgery with a rusty spoon. So I wouldn't say a patch is imminent. :P

Maybe I'm in a superhuge hurry. Maybe I'm in the ubertrojan computer lab where everything I type is keylogged and I use the same password for everything. Maybe I just want to ridicule you anonymously. I do agree with you that being logged in has definite advantages, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I and everyone else will always want to do so.

The way things are setup now gives the user more choices with a minimum of hassle. As a general rule I think that it's best to not remove choice from the user unless there is a more compelling reason than that it annoys people. Of course, I am not one of the annoyed, and if I were I might very well feel differently. :D

So where do you work. We know downtown, at some oil company. That really narrows it down in OKC, but what's the name of the company? If you don't mind and are able to release such information.

Oh yea, my vote is to just leave the "post as guest" option on.
