Hopefully this is close enough to fitting the category:
What can be done with equipment that is just plain dead? I have a 17" flat-face CRT that does nothing but glow. I doubt it would be worth the cost of getting it fixed. I also have a couple of totally worn-out UPS batteries.
Is there any kind of 'environmentally-conscious' way to dispose of these items locally? I'd rather not just 'donate' them to the landfill.

There used to be a place in OKC that would refurbish that monitor for something like $49. Just thought I'd throw that out there, don't know if that makes a difference on your opinion for getting it fixed. I saw it once advertised in the Gazette and often in the OKCPCUG Monitor (a news paper put out by OKCPCUG)

Bad news. I called Office Depot to see if they would recycle other stuff too, and they said that their recycling program ended 2 weeks ago. :x
I asked them if they new of any other place locally that had a similar program, and they said that as far as they know they were the only one.

dang. you know, I saw on teevee a while ago some story about this. iirc, it was HP that had some BIG recycling/reusing/reclaiming set-up going. I think it cost a little bit to foist stuff off on them, though.
